A car slammed into a tree in North Charleston early Saturday, knocking out power for about 150 people.

“I’ve been sitting in this house freezing and going to my car to warm up,” said Laura Bush, who lives on Eagle Drive.

The accident happened about 5 a.m. off Eagle Drive, and crews with South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. arrived at the scene about 7 a.m., said Eric Boomhower, a SCE&G spokesman.

“Unfortunately, we had to wait for a wrecker to untangle the vehicle,” he said, adding that 148 customers were without power until 1:33 p.m.
