The national spotlight is on the Holy City area again, this time shining on its spooky side.
Mount Pleasant’s Yorktown Ghost Tour will be featured on NBC’s “Today Show” Thursday during the “Haunted Cities” segment to be aired in the 9 a.m. hour.
Family Circle Magazine created the segment to highlight Halloween events in cities around the country.
Megan Levinson, a spokeswoman for the magazine, said they chose to feature the Charleston-area tourist attraction because of its historical focus.
“Yorktown Ghost Tours is a wonderful, family-friendly experience that conveys the sights, sounds and history of the USS Yorktown based in Charleston,” she said.
Craig Delk of the tour company agreed, adding that it’s unlike many other haunted experiences because it runs year-round on a decommissioned World War II-era aircraft carrier.
“There are certainly some very unexplained things happening on the ship...voices, shadows, smells and footsteps,” Delk said. “Not only is this a one-of-a-kind tour, but it is especially unique because it is about our country’s heroes instead of our villains.”
The mention of the Charleston attraction isn’t guaranteed because the segment may get shortened or cut due to timing limitations on the live show, Levinson said.
