A new addition is coming to Faber Place.

Charleston-based Durlach Associates and Trinity Capital Advisors of Charlotte said they broke ground Wednesday on a 125,000-square-foot five-story office building called Faber Plaza near Interstate 526 and Leeds Avenue.

“The Faber Place submarket is currently approximately 95 percent leased,” John Durlach, broker in charge at Durlach Associates, said in a written statement. “Commercial real estate brokers and area tenants have been calling for a new building for quite a while.”

He noted that the central location offers quick access to the local interstate highway system and Charleston International Airport.

Marcus R. Durlach IV, president, said the real estate firm expects to announce its first tenant “in the near future.”

Faber Plaza was designed by LS3P Associates Ltd. The builder is Choate Construction.

Previously, Durlach Associates was part of group that developed Faber Centre, a 95,000-square-foot office building near the site of Faber Place.

The area is already a major suburban office nexus. Tenants include the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and more than 50 major businesses, including Boeing Co., MWV Specialty Chemicals, Cummins, Pulte Homes, Comcast Corp., Lockheed and Select Health.
