A Canadian-based Asian dining chain is expanding into the Lowcountry. Wok Box Fresh Asian Kitchen of Vancouver will open its first Charleston area restaurant at Azalea Square in Summerville in July.
The company says it offers the cuisine of 10 countries — Thailand, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Korea, China, Japan, India, Cambodia and Vietnam.
It hopes to open five other fast-casual restaurants in the region over the next few years. A second is planned for North Charleston by year’s end, but the site has not been selected. Jay Judge will operate the Summerville location.
Wok Box has more than 50 restaurants in Canada, the U.S. and Qatar. Charles Constant with Domicile Real Estate helped broker the deal for the Summerville site.
Chick-fil-A will open its newest Lowcountry restaurant at 6 a.m. Thursday in Moncks Corner, employing 80 people.
The chain’s new location is at 601 N. Highway 52. The first 100 adults from specific ZIP codes who are in line will have a chance to win meals for a year. Chick fil-A will collect children’s books through the weekend to benefit a local youth organization.
The operator is Justin Clark, a College of Charleston graduate who has been with the chain since 2009.
Five years after opening in Citadel Mall, King Street Grille has shut its doors.
“Due to uncontrollable circumstances, we have determined that it is in the best interest of the King Street Grille as a company to close the Citadel Mall location,” Tod Dundas, director of operations, said in a statement.
The closing doesn’t affect the chain’s other four restaurants in the Charleston area. They are in downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Kiawah Island and North Charleston.
Gift certificates from the shuttered location will be honored at the other restaurants.
