In time for South Carolina's tax-free weekend, Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. is sponsoring a "BAX"-to-School promotion that allows shoppers to trade Greenbax for gift cards to major retailers for back-to-school items such as books, clothing and electronics.

Greenbax are part of the Charleston-based grocer's customer loyalty program, which provides Greenbax electronically on shoppers' Pig Cards every time they shop Piggly Wiggly and selected partner merchants.

During the promotion, five Greenbax will buy a $10 gift card, 7.5 for a $15 gift card, 12.5 for a $25 gift card, 25 for a $50 gift card and 50 for a $100 gift card.

Gift cards are available for major retailers such as Belk, Old Navy, Kohl's, Barnes & Noble and Best Buy, among others. Tax-free weekend is Friday through Sunday. The Pig's promotion runs through Sept. 7.

--The former R.J.'s Seashell restaurant on Folly Beach is being reincarnated as The Grill on the Edge, according to real estate broker Jim Moring with The Commonwealth Co. The new restaurant at 41 Center St. is the product of Ryan Condon, Dan Doyle and Jody Hawkins. It plans to open Aug. 15 with chef Julia Barstow whipping up casual wood-grilled items, fresh seafood and homemade burgers.

--Jermaine Euland recently opened Kama's, a bakery, coffee and sandwich shop at 218 President St. in downtown Charleston.

Ant act

All this month, artist Jeffrey Kennedy and the King Street Marketing Group will host the second "The Ants Go Marching Down King Street ... and Broad!" The traveling art show in downtown Charleston will feature Kennedy's colorful, larger-than-life ant sculptures and bring attention to Darkness to Light's fifth annual Prevent-a-thon for child sexual abuse.

The colorful ant sculptures, some as small as a kitten and some as large as a horse, can be found in stores and restaurants, starting on Upper King Street and moving south for three weeks before turning onto Broad for the final week of August. For all exhibit locations, go to
