A new $6 million data center planned for Palmetto Commerce Park in North Charleston will employ 20 workers, it was announced today.

Immedion LLC said it will open in late spring 2012.

It will be the firm's third data center, which will offer clients extra server power and capacity, as well as offsite data storage using what is known as "cloud" computing technology.

"Locating our third data center in Charleston will better enable us to meet the growing tech needs of the coastal region," said Immedion CEO Frank Mobley.

The Post and Courier first reported on the data center deal last month, Company officials were in North Charleston today to make a formal official announcement.
