Tanger Outlet to unveil new H&M store

Bridgit Mendler will perform a free mini-concert at 6 p.m. Friday at H&M at Tanger Outlet Center in North Charleston.

It's a pretty eventful week at Tanger Outlet Center in North Charleston.

First, H&M is debuting its new store in the shopping center, its second in South Carolina, at noon Thursday. The first 100 customers in line outside will win gift cards with surprise values ranging from $10 to $300.

The Swedish retail chain offered similar perks in December when it opened its first store in the Charleston area at 281 King St. in downtown Charleston, an event that drew more than 400 shoppers to line up outside the doors for several hours before it opened.

The 20,000-square-foot store at Tanger has been under construction since November at the southeastern corner of the shopping center near Old Navy.

The new location will carry the brand's standard collection of affordable apparel for kids, men and women. H&M does not operate any outlet stores.

Then, on Friday, former Disney actress Bridgit Mendler of the young adult sitcom "Good Luck Charlie" will perform a free mini-concert at 6 p.m., followed by an autograph signing and Q&A session.

Mendler has been performing in small venues across the country over the past few months as she breaks away from the Disney persona and re-enters showbiz as a Hollywood Records recording artist.

Two businesses near Mount Pleasant Towne Centre are celebrating their grand openings this weekend.

Learning Express Toys has opened at 1903 Highway 17 near Marble Slab Creamery. The toy shop will celebrate Friday through Sunday with prize contests and a storewide sale of 20 percent off.

Nearby, Marco's Pizza has opened at 1909 Highway 17 in the Bi-Lo-anchored center near the Isle of Palms Connector. For a limited time, the pizzeria will offer two-topping large pies for $10. The restaurant offers delivery and online ordering.

The chain has opened three stores in the area in the past two years in West Ashley, North Charleston and Ladson, and the company plans up to 12 pizza joints in the Charleston market over the next few years.

Carolina Vape Zone LLC has leased a space for an electronic cigarette store at 8410 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston. Also, Miracle Ear has leased a 1,300-square-foot space at 874 Orleans Road in West Ashley.
