One of the region’s largest federal technology contracting agencies has awarded two multimillion-dollar jobs to Charleston-area businesses.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic, or SPAWAR, announced a $95 million, three-year contract to five companies, including Charleston-based software firm SPARC Edge to do work for the U.S. Navy. The other four participating contractors are Maga Design Group, IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers and ECS Federal, SPARC said in a written statement.

“Enterprise software development and implementation is a growing area of business for SPARC,” CEO Marc Murphy said.

Also, Life Cycle Engineering of North Charleston announced that SPAWAR awarded it a $1.9 million dollar contract for software and technology support services for the U.S Marine Corps.

The high-tech SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic is based on the Naval Weapons Station in Hanahan. It is a major source of business for the local defense contracting industry.
