South Carolina Aquarium’s Shark Week starts Aug. 8

The S.C. Aquarium says more than 10 sharks call Great Ocean Tank home.

Sharks to the max for seven full days.

That’ll be the case at the S.C. Aquarium starting Aug. 8th when the downtown Charleston tourist attraction kicks off its own version of “Shark Week.”

The event isn’t designed to scare visitors away — the aquarium said it’s all about “seven days of fun with activities and programs that dispel the misconceptions surrounding sharks.”

Among other activities, visitors can touch a shark, talk with shark experts and meet the Aquarium’s blow-up shark, Bruce, all at no extra charge. The Concord Street attraction offers more details at scaquarium.org/sharkweek.

Sharks could use a little damage control right now. The intimidating sea creatures have been making waves of late, for all the wrong reasons, including the eight reported attacks on swimmers off North Carolina this summer, and the now-famous footage of surfer Mick Fanning fighting off a shark Sunday in South Africa, during a competition that was being televised live.
