Software firm PeopleMatter expands on King St.

Nate Dapore, CEO of PeopleMatter, moved the software company's headquarters to Upper King Street about a year ago.

A former clothing store in downtown Charleston soon will be selling software instead of soft goods.

PeopleMatter said Tuesday it has completed its new sales and customer operations center on Upper King Street, across from its year-old headquarters.

The 10,000-square-foot expansion is expected to create 50 jobs over the next 18 months, the company said. It gives the firm about 60 percent more office space in downtown Charleston.

PeopleMatter sells cloud-based software designed as a one-stop tool to simplify recruiting and other personnel tasks for service-industry employers, including fast-food restaurants, hospitality businesses and convenience stores. Its clients operate a combined 41,000 retail locations. They include Taco Bell, Buffalo Wild Wings and Jiffy Lube.

PeopleMatter moved into its 17,000-square-foot headquarters at 466 King St. in early 2013. The new sales outpost in a former Citi Trends shop at 483 King will open up space at the main office for product development, engineering, marketing and finance, the company said.

"We are in an exciting growth period," CEO Nate DaPore said in a written statement.

PeopleMatter announced its latest expansion in the fall. At the same time, it said it had raised an additional $16 million to fuel its growth plans, bringing the total to $63 million in five rounds of financing.

The company opened for business in the Charleston Digital Corridor's Flagship incubator at East Bay and Calhoun streets in 2009 with three associates.

The firm now has 135 full-time employees at offices in Charleston, Greenville, Atlanta and Denver, said spokeswoman Kelly Hamilton. It also has plans to add about 200 more jobs by 2015. PeopleMatter recently closed a small San Francisco office.
