Santee Cooper’s top executives will not receive hefty raises this year as they have in the past.

The state-owned utility’s board of directors on Friday did not consider giving pay increases this year, as it usually does each April, to President and CEO Lonnie Carter and four other top officials at the company, board Chairman O.L. Thompson said by phone after the board meeting in Myrtle Beach.

“The management did not recommend it,” Thompson said.

Carter said Friday, “The time is just not right. We have a lot going on, and we don’t have to do it now.”
