Roger Milliken

A spokesman for Roger Milliken said the Upstate textile and chemical magnate died today.

He was 95.

Spartanburg-based Millilken & Co. was founded in 1865 by his grandfather. It grew to become the largest privately held textile and chemical manufacturer in the world.

Milliken was named president of the company upon the death of his father in 1947. In 1983 he became chairman and chief executive officer. For years he was ranked as the wealthiest person in South Carolina.

He stepped aside from day-to-day management duties in 2006 but continued as chairman.
