476 St. Andrews Blvd — Art deco design marks rental home in upscale West Ashley subdivision

The one-story brick house for lease in Moreland would be fitting for a professional or family.

As a reference point, people talk about living “out” in the suburbs like it’s an overnight trip there.

Sometimes, that’s not so far off. But there’s also that fine line where the city meets the bedroom community.

In the case of 476 St. Andrew Blvd., it’s more like one part of Charleston hooking up with another. But the upshot is the brick house, which is for lease for $1,500 a month, is just a bridge and a causeway from the peninsula.

“It is not even five minutes from downtown,” says Owen G. Meislin, of Owen G. Meislin Real Estate. The company is handling the rental.

The 1,700-square-foot ranch is in the quiet Moreland neighborhood. “It’s a nice sized home,” he says. A deep backyard extends through the block to Woodward Road.

Meislin says he is seeking a year’s lease but would consider a six-month rental with it being so late in the year.

In addition to the large lawn, 476 St. Andrews Blvd. has at least one other exterior perk: a detached two-car garage.

The dwelling is crafted in the art deco style, and “there is still a lot of those features,” Meislin says. Hardwood floors run throughout the two bedroom, two bath home. It also has quite a few ceramic touches, he says.

Bedrooms are at either end of the house, and the bathrooms are close by. Marking the center of the residence are a good-sized foyer, spacious living room, formal dining room and bright kitchen with a peninsula and full complement of up-to-date appliances. The wood-sided den sports a fireplace.

There are upgraded features, such as a new roof and modern heating and air conditioning system, Meislin says.

Among the possible tenants would be couples or a young family with one or two children who can take advantage of the yard, he says.
