There are all sorts of couples that can share a home: newlyweds, husband and wife starting a family, empty nesters, retirees.

Most houses aren’t designed specifically for two people, although many are adaptable. But one residence that is best suited for two occupants, at least according to the owner, is in a gated community on secluded Rio Vista Lane on Johns Island.

The “cheerful, sunny house” is on an acre lot in a quiet neighborhood, says Britta Marchois, who is handling the rental.

The 2,200-square-foot home, which is available at $1,400 a month with two months security deposit, is “built for a couple without children or with a baby,” she says.

Raised up a story, the Rio Vista Lane rental house offers a number of energy efficient features. They include “many windows, tankless water heater and central heating with gas,” Marchois says. The home also contains electric air conditioning and ceiling fans in all rooms.

Among the high-end features are hardwood floors in the main living area and tile floors in the kitchen, laundry and bathrooms.

From the entrance hall, there’s a large dining room and living room overlooking a backyard garden. The fully-equipped kitchen and breakfast nook also looks out on the garden. Other highlights are a library/TV room, a second bedroom now used as an office and a wraparound deck with 400-square-foot covered porch.

Also inside is a suite with large bedroom, sizable walk-in closet and full bathroom; a powder room; and a spacious laundry.

Another notable perk is the home has wide enough doors to allow wheel chair passage and a chairlift from the underneath two-car garage to the main floor. There’s also extensive storage space on the garage level.

The residence sports a security system, and yard work is taken care of by the owner, Marchois says. No children or pets are permitted.

The property is in a central location, about 15 minutes drive northeast to downtown Charleston and southwest to Kiawah or Seabrook islands.

The residence is one of a handful of homes on Rio Vista Lane. Traveling south, get on Folly Road and cross the Wappoo Bridge. Turn right on Maybank Highway and follow it for seven miles, crossing the Stono River on the way. Make a right on Main Road and proceed about a mile. Turn left on Chisolm Road, then take the first left on Point Park Road. Make a left on Rio Vista Lane. Ahead is 6140 Rio Vista Lane.
