There’s little chance Shoeless Joe Jackson will walk out of a cornfield here.
But one Berkeley County home available for rent has something in common with the national pastime — its very own “field of, er, teams” if not dreams, next door.
The rental property at 142 Red Cedar Drive in Goose Creek is next to Felkel Field, a city recreational facility including baseball park.
A metal fence enwraps the home’s rear yard but otherwise there’s a clear vantage point of the field.
The house is “in a residential neighborhood that backs up to a sports complex,” says Joyce Ex, who manages family-owned Ex Properties LLC.
She says the property is “available immediately.” The 1,000-square-foot brick ranch-style residence is for rent for $795 a month with a year’s lease.
Red Cedar Drive is in Woodland Heights, a small community tucked between Beverly Hills and Boulder Bluff east of Goose Creek Boulevard (U.S. Highway 52).
Among the home’s recent improvements are a new roof and an updated heating, ventilation and air conditioning system installed a year ago, she says.
A live oak guards 142 Red Cedar Drive, which has a decent-sized front yard and “very deep” back lawn, Ex says.
Other peripheral perks are a one-car garage, separate utility room that can be accessed from the house and a small wooden deck in back.
Tenants who might be interested in the home are couples, including seniors, and small families, she says. The three bedrooms are at one end of the house. There’s one bathroom.
Also inside are a good-sized kitchen with refrigerator, stove and plenty of cabinets; an adjacent dining room; and a sizable living room at the entrance. Berber carpet covers the main living areas.
The house had been rented by the same tenants for two years and is “in pretty good condition,” she says. We just kind of touched up and cleaned up.”

The rental home is on a semi-circular street in Woodland Heights. Traveling west, take Interstate 26 to exit 209A, which is Highway 52. Follow the highway into Goose Creek. From the St. James Avenue traffic light, proceed about two miles on Highway 52. Turn right on Beverly Drive. At its end point, take a right on Amy Drive then make the second left on Lucy Drive. Turn right on Pine Ridge Court, which runs into Red Cedar Drive. Follow the street to 142 Red Cedar.
