Party on Village Green marks fourth year in Summerville planned community

The Carnes Crossroads street party edges up to model homes.

As Carnes Crossroads grows from home sites to an emerging community, at least one event can claim “fixture” status — an afternoon festival bringing together neighbors and visitors.

The fourth annual Street Party on the Village Green will take place 1-4 p.m. May 15. Home base will be the first neighborhood in the Summerville master-planned community off Interstate 26, exit 199B.

The party will mix live music with a farmers’ market in the Green Barn, kids’ activities and food trucks, according to organizers.

The event is open to the public, and admission and parking are free.

“Our Street Party is a great opportunity for folks to come to Carnes Crossroads and get a taste of the community that is developing here,” says Chuck Buck, broker-in-charge at Carnes Crossroads Real Estate.

A highlight of this year’s fest will be a performance by the Travis Allison Band, described as an award-winning Charleston-based group popular with the whole family.

The Farmers’ Market, held in the community’s flagship Green Barn, will offer fresh produce and handmade goods from local vendors. Attractions on the Village Green include a jump castle, giant slide and train rides for kids; and cornhole and bocce for families. Food, beverages and treats can be purchased on-site.

Visitors interested in touring Carnes Crossroads homes can walk to the furnished houses on Model Row. They can also explore move-in ready homes from each of the community’s builders — Ashton Woods Homes, David Weekley Homes, Eastwood Homes, Sabal Homes and John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods.

The street party serves as a fundraiser for Helping Hands of Goose Creek, a local nonprofit organization. Carnes Crossroads Real Estate helps the group collect items for its food bank. Visitors can donate canned food and dry goods at the event. Anyone who makes a donation to Helping Hands of Goose Creek will be entered in a prize drawing from the real estate office.

“We’re inviting everyone to come out to enjoy some great food, entertainment and activities, and to show their support for our friends at Helping Hands of Goose Creek,” Buck says.

The 2,300-acre Carnes Crossroads master-planned community calls itself an evolving residential and commercial center for Summerville and Goose Creek. The ownership and development team behind Carnes Crossroads also backed the development of Daniel Island in Charleston.
