The brick house at 50 Mueller Dr. is five decades old. But the home, for rent for $1,295 a month, might as well be new construction, James A. Kenney likes to point out.
Let's see: there's updated hardwood floors, reworked ceilings, remodeled kitchen and a fresh lawn. The owner Robert Schwarz also added a portico to the front door area and put in a privacy fence, says Kenney, who as owner and operator of West Ashley Property Management is overseeing the property.
"Inside he took out the wall between the den and the big living room and dining room, which opened that whole area," Kenney says. "The walls are all white with new fans and lights throughout. The hardwood floors were all refinished. There are new counter tops in the kitchen and a new floor." There's also a washer and dryer in the one-car garage.
"They wanted it to be a top rental," he says. Along with what Kenney calls an attractive lease rate, the first month is free.
With four bedrooms and a sizable yard, the house is ready-made for someone with children. "Absolutely, we would prefer a family," Kenney says.
Schwarz has fixed up a number of properties to rent out, Kenney says. "This is their retirement income, They want to keep them up."
Mueller Drive is located in the quiet, upscale Northbridge Terrace neighborhood west of the Ashley. Yet it is close to major thoroughfares, including S.C. Highway 7 and Interstate 26, that can ferry people to shops, entertainment and sporting events. The home also is just a few blocks from scenic marsh bordering the Ashley River.
To take a look at the house, head west on I-26 to the World War II Memorial Bridge, commonly known as Cosgrove Avenue or the North Bridge. Cross the bridge onto what becomes Sam Rittenberg Boulevard. Make a left at the traffic light. That's Orange Grove Road. Follow Orange Grove to the fourth right, which is Mueller Drive.
