The mission of Dragon Boat Charleston is "to promote the mental and physical wellness of cancer survivors through the sport of dragon boating." The group believes that "the sport affords those diagnosed with cancer an opportunity to reclaim their sense of self, feel strong, set long term goals and push the restart button on their lives."

Through fundraising efforts, all cancer survivors participate in the "life-changing program" free of charge. Money raised for the Charleston event helps survivors here locally, the CAA says.
