When people drive around chic Charleston area neighborhoods and check out the elegant houses, they likely assume that the owners live there.
But sometimes these dwellings for whatever reason are not occupied by the property holders. They may house, or be in search of, tenants.
Case in point: 58 Hopetown Road in Mount Pleasant. Built in 2003 in the neotraditional I’On neighborhood, the 3,500-square-foot home can be leased for $3,800 a month.
“It’s a Barbardos-style house,” says Nancy Elliott, broker associate with AgentOwned Realty who is handling the listing. The wood-sided home has a metal roof.
“This would be definitely an executive home especially a doctor working at MUSC or a lawyer,” she says. Specifically, the house is in a good location for someone who needs to be in downtown Charleston in a hurry, she says. I’On is less than five miles from the peninsula.
“What makes the home so good is there is a room over the garage with a bath. If you come home late (as for instance a doctor might after long hours at the hospital), you don’t want to disturb the family,” she says.
The finished room could also be a nanny’s quarters, she says. Along with the detached one-car garage and carport, the property has an intimate courtyard.
Marking the interior of the house are an open floor plan and custom details, according to the Realtor.
Not counting the garage-carriage house, there are five bedrooms, four baths and a powder room. Among the distinguishing features are Caribbean sunburst hardwood floors and a gourmet kitchen with Viking stainless appliances, granite countertops, a large island and a custom tile backsplash, she says.
The open family room has custom bookshelves and a fireplace that’s visible from the dining area and the kitchen. It opens onto a screened porch with a second fireplace and wet bar. There’s a formal dining room and a downstairs bedroom with its own bath that doubles as a formal living room or study, she says.
The master suite showcases separate vanities, a walk-in closet and separate shower and tub. Three additional bedrooms are situated on the second floor. Wide hallways provide room for a computer desk or bookshelves. New carpet has been installed in some of the rooms. There’s also a large laundry-mudroom.
A tenant can take advantage of neighborhood amenities such as a pool, tennis courts, clubhouse and boat ramp.
Elliott says she is “very negotiable” with the lease terms, which can be a year or more or as short as six months.
In her listing, she says, “This house makes for consummate entertaining.”
