Families and friends pool their money to rent Charleston area beach houses in summer months, eager to enjoy the sunny weather and warm ocean water.

When the heat starts to break in the fall, the sea might not be as comfortable to jump in. But the skies are still bright and temperatures moderate most of the time. Meanwhile, oceanfront rental prices dip from their peaks. Tenants can land bargains on houses that are pricey from May through September. Meanwhile, they are likely to spend more time inside — taking greater advantage of the house — than at the height of beach season.

One such property is “Pink Flamingo” at 507 E. Arctic Ave. on Folly Beach. From now until late March, the mid-rise home with five bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths is available for $3,290 a week, or $545 a day with a four-day minimum stay. That's about half its highest rate. The 4,100-square-foot house sleeps 14.

“This astonishing oceanfront beach house leaves guests not only impressed but speechless,” Dunes Properties, which is handling the rental, says it its promotional materials.

The agency describes the first level of the high-end home this way: “Upon entering, you are welcomed with a spacious first floor including a modern fully stocked designer kitchen, hardwood flooring, a spacious dining hall, two professionally decorated bedrooms, an oceanfront sitting room, a cutting edge entertainment room and a beautifully designed elevator.”

An oceanfront deck is off of the “lavish” first floor. It has direct, private beach access. Guests can watch the sunrise and listen to the waves.

According to Dunes Properties, the stadium-designed second floor overlooks the dining hall. There are two well-appointed bedrooms: The master suite has stunning views from the bedroom and contains a luxury spa-style bathroom with vanity, walk-in shower and oceanside bubble jet tub. A second oceanfront sitting room leads to a balcony looking out on the water.

The third floor, Dunes Properties contends, offers some of the best views on Folly Beach. There’s an expansive rooftop terrace with covered game room, oceanfront sun deck and lighted, covered cabana/tiki lounge.

Other features include an outdoor shower and wireless Internet.

The Pink Flamingo house is not far from the center of Folly Beach. From downtown, cross the James Island connector to Folly Road. Turn left on Folly Road and continue until it ends as Center Street on Folly Beach. Turn left on East Arctic Street. Go five blocks. Ahead on the right is 507 E. Arctic St.
