Particularly in the Northeast, brownstones are a common urban sight — standing out with reddish-brown sandstone exteriors and close to sidewalks.
There aren’t many in Charleston, even with its rich architectural history. But one grouping of note is a trio of towering townhomes built 163 years ago at 109 Bull St.
As of Aug. 1, the brownstone at 109 Bull St., Unit A will have a floor available for rent. The price is $2,700 a month for a minimum one year lease.
“It is one of those ‘brownstones’ between Ashley and Rutledge avenues, which are unusual in Charleston architecture,” says Dianna Clement-Ross, whose company DCR Properties is handling the rental.
The property, on the western end of the Bull Street townhomes, is a fully furnished three bedroom, two bath apartment.
“It is a third floor ‘walk-up’ with terrific views from a private rear porch,” she says.
The residence has an off-street parking space for one car and two more spots on the street.
All of the building’s occupants are professionals, Clement-Ross says. The residence ”really appeals to members of the medical community as it is so close to all downtown hospitals and MUSC,” she says.
The third floor apartment provides plenty of perks. Among them are spacious rooms, lots of windows and light, hardwood floors throughout, a large eat-in kitchen with skylight, a washer and dryer and central heat and air.
Meanwhile, French doors in the master bedroom lead to the private porch, which has striking scenes of downtown Charleston and beyond.
Outside, next to the west wall of 109 Bull St., is a “pretty” brick walkway that leads to a rear garden, Clement-Ross says. “The facade of the building is impressive,” she says.
The rental is toward the southwest sector of downtown Charleston. Heading south, take Rutledge Avenue crossing over Calhoun Street. Go two blocks and make a right on Bull Street. Ahead on the left is 109 Bull St., with the entrance to Unit A at the west end.
