A new kind of chicken restaurant is flocking to the Charleston region.
Plano, Texas-based Raising Cane's, which specializes in chicken fingers, will open two sites this fall.
One is being built at 1774 U.S. Highway 17 near Lowe's in Mount Pleasant, and the other is going up at 7255 Rivers Ave. near the H.H. Gregg appliance store in North Charleston.
The Rivers Avenue restaurant will be open by October while the one near Mount Pleasant Towne Centre will open about a month later, according to spokeswoman Casey Graves of CRM Companies of Lexington, Ky., the franchise owner for South Carolina. Each store will average about 3,500 square feet.
These are the first two Raising Cane's in South Carolina and they have a local connection. Two of the franchise owners, Bill Rich and Craig Turner, have houses on the Isle of Palms. The chain has more than 80 restaurants in 14 states.
Reeds Jewelers is opening a second shop in the metro area.
The Wilmington, N.C.-based jewelry chain has leased the space at 1239 Belk Drive between Jos. A. Bank and Cache at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre.
It plans to open in late fall. The corporate-owned store will carry David Yurman's collection of high-end ladies' designer jewelry, as well as Rolex.
Reeds already has a store at Northwoods Mall in North Charleston.
Papa Murphy's take-and-bake pizza will open a third location in Charleston by the middle of the month.
The store at 2 Avondale Ave., Unit A, in West Ashley is owned by George Sarkis, who also owns shops in Goose Creek and James Island. His plan is to have eight stores in South Carolina by the end of next year.
Aubergine Home Collection is now at Freshfields Village between Kiawah and Seabrook islands. The upscale decor store at 465 Freshfields Drive specializes in custom bedding and home accessories with an emphasis on detail to fit individual tastes. It has another store in Mount Pleasant.
