Product recalls

Toyota is recalling about 421,000 RAV4 vehicles.

Details are at www.cpsc.gov or, for cars, at www.nhtsa.gov.

Toyota is recalling about 421,000 RAV4 vehicles because potential corrosion in their windshield wipers could make them inoperable.

The vehicles include model years ranging from 2009-12 and about 2,500 vehicles from model years 2012-14.

The company said that water dripping onto the windshield wiper link can cause corrosion over time and wear at the wiper link joint. This could cause the wiper link to separate from the wiper motor crank arm in some cases. If separated, the wipers could become inoperative.

Toyota said owners of vehicles involved in the recall will be notified by mail. Dealers will replace the water channel, wiper link and wiper motor crank arm.

Recalled adult portable bed handles sold by Bed Handles Inc. from 1994-2007 include the Original Bedside Assistant (BA10W), Travel Handles (BA11W) sold as a set of two bed handles, and the Adjustable Bedside Assistant (AJ1). The bed handles are intended to assist older or disabled adults getting in and out of bed.

“Bed Handles Inc.” and the model number are on a white label on the handles. They were sold by home health care stores, drugstores and medical equipment stores and in catalogs January 1994-December 2007.

When attached without the use of safety retention straps, the handle can shift out of place, creating a dangerous gap between the handle and the side of the mattress. This poses a risk of entrapment, strangulation and death. Three women died after becoming entrapped between the mattress and bed handles.
