BMW is recalling more than 156,000 cars and SUVs in the U.S. because the engines can lose power or stall.
The recall covers multiple models from 2010 through 2012. It includes some 128i, 328i, Z4, 135i, 335i, 528i, 535i and 640i cars. Also covered are many X3, X5, and X6 SUVs.
The automaker says bolts that hold a camshaft housing can loosen and break. That can cause reduced power or stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace bolts at no cost.
More than 1 million thermostats are recalled because batteries can leak and cause a fire.
The thermostats are made by White-Rodgers, but some have different brand names printed on them, including Comfort-Sentry, DICO, Emerson, Frigidaire, Maytag, Nutone, Partners Choice, Rheem, Ruud, Unico, Water Furnace, Westinghouse and Zonefirst.
There were seven reports of burn damage to the thermostat, with two involving minor property damage, the CPSC said.
The thermostats were sold for $30-$70 at hardware stores and heating/AC companies January 2006 to December 2013. About 740,000 were sold in the U.S.
Recalled thermostats don't have a battery icon on the left of its blue lighted screen, says CPSC.

About 365,000 multiuse flashlights distributed in a cigarette promotion are being recalled due to a possible fire hazard when matches inside the device ignite.
Altria Group Distribution said it received 11 reports of matches igniting inside the flashlight and two reports of explosions. One person reported minor burns and another received treatment for injuries to the hand, it said.
The flashlight was distributed this year through March as part of a Marlboro promotion. Altria makes Marlboro cigarettes.
The 3-in-1 flashlight, compass and matchholder can catch fire when matches come into contact with a striker pad below the compass cap, the company said.
The flashlight, made in China, is bronze colored and has five LED lights. It is 4.5 inches long and 1 inch in diameter. It was distributed with 20 wooden matches inside.
Consumers are advised to stop using the product, remove the matches and store them in a safe area. Contact Altria for a free replacement item.
