A hotel developer has submitted final design plans for an 108-room extended-stay property to be built near the foot of the Ravenel Bridge in Mount Pleasant.
The opening for the Staybridge Suites at 251 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. has not been determined, said Dan Blumenstock of Lowcountry Hotels.
The lodging chain operates a higher-end brand of residential-style hotels. The all-suite concept is geared at corporate travelers and other guests who need a place to stay for weeks or months.
The chain, which has a location off Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston, is part of InterContinental Hotels Group.
The town of Mount Pleasant’s commercial design review board is scheduled to review the final plans for the Staybridge Suites project on Sept. 30.
The property formerly housed Grace Chapel. That long-vacant building was demolished in 2013.
Another hotel is already under way in the immediate area. Work began earlier this year on a seven-story, 110-room SpringHill Suites around the corner on Magrath Darby Boulevard as part of the “Gateway” project. It’s expected to be completed by early 2016.
Also, Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina is adding 90 rooms to its 130-room waterfront hotel at Patriots Point.
