North Charleston-based Hawthorne Global Aviation Services today said it has purchased a controlling stake in a business that services private jets at a Louisiana airport.

Thew newly acquired Aeropremier is known in the industry as a “fixed-based operator,” or FBO. Its handles general aviation aircraft at New Orleans Lakefront Airport, which has more than 50,000 square feet of hangar space and can accommodate jets up to the size of a Gulfstream 550.

Hawthorne was founded in 1932 and is headquartered off of Leeds Avenue. Through its 80-year history it has been involved in many aspects of the aviation industry.

“The newly renovated facility provides a first class gateway to New Orleans and is only 15 minutes from the heart of the city,” said Steven Levesque, president and CEO of Hawthorne, “We are pleased to have been able to add such a great facility on a major general aviation airport as our initial presence on the Gulf Coast.”
