The Post and Courier has launched a new application for the iPhone and the iPod Touch that will allow users to read the latest local news with the touch of a screen.

The free application features local news, weather, politics, business and sports updates from postandcourier.com.

It also comes with a "You Report" feature that allows users to send photos and e-mails directly to the Post and Courier newsroom staff.

The application had been downloaded 142 times as of Friday, according to Amy Freeman, Web development manager for postandcourier.com.

Freeman said similar applications for the Android, Blackberry, Kindle and the iPad are all in progress.

"We are excited that our online department has come such a long way only within the past year," she said. "With so much technology happening around us, it is a new venture for the Evening Post Publishing Co. and how we present the local news to our community. Being a part of the new revolution in media is very rewarding."

Anyone with ideas on how to enhance the application is asked to email comments to webteam@postandcourier.com.
