The College of Charleston sailing team opened the spring season with a three-point victory at the SAISA Open hosted by Eckerd College over the weekend in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Cougars scored 15 points and passed second-place Miami. Eckerd was third and South Florida fourth.
Ten races were sailed in the event. Freshman Chris Sands skippered the Cougars to a victory in A-Division with freshman crew Tierney Driscoll. Freshman Iván Aponte-Taboas skippered B-Division to a second-place finish with junior crew Alexis Scott.
The College of Charleston will host the Charleston Spring Coed Intersectional and also will compete in the University of South Florida Women’s Intersectional in Tampa Saturday and Sunday.
