North Charleston's newest apartment community opens its first units later this fall and is offering a special rate for first responders and educators.
The 312-unit Mosby Ingleside Apartments in the developing, mixed-use Ingleside Plantation community off U.S. Highway 78 and Interstate 26 will offer a 30 percent discount off the base rent through its "Local Heroes Program."
Qualifying residents include full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and public school teachers from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
Leases must be for at least 12 months. The first units will be available Nov. 10. The Local Heroes discount applies to one- and two-bedroom units only. The complex will offer three-bedroom models as well.
Base monthly rental rates range from $1,110 for a one-bedroom unit to $1,545 for a three-bedroom model.
The apartments are part of Virginia-based Middleburg, a real estate investment, management and development firm specializing in multifamily communities.
To be eligible for the discount, the person applying must be the primary income-earner on the lease and maintain qualifying employment throughout the rental term. Certain other restrictions also apply.
“Those that serve our community should be able to live in our community,” Middleburg partner Austin Knapp said.

Another new self-storage facility is coming to the greater Charleston area.
Miller-Valentine Group and Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic of Charleston, the same firms developing another storage facility at North Rhett and Sumner avenues in North Charleston, recently broke ground on a similar three-story, 90,000-square-foot structure at North Rhett Avenue and Red Bank Road in Goose Creek.
Units will range from 5 feet by 5 feet to 10 feet by 30 feet in the climate-controlled facility. The building is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018. Extra Space Storage will oversee leasing and management.
