New location for College of Charleston North Campus is completed

The College of Charleston's North Campus and the Lowcountry Graduate Center are locating to a newly built 50,000-square-foot building fronting Interstate 526.

The new home of the College of Charleston North Campus and the Lowcountry Graduate Center has been completed, the developer said Tuesday.

Atlanta-based Holder Properties owns and will manage the 50,000-square-foot two-story building.

Work began in December.

The college's North Charleston campus and the graduate center plan to take occupancy before fall classes begin. A grand opening is being planned for September.

"While on a very compressed construction schedule, quality never slipped, and the facility was delivered on time as promised," Steve Osborne, the college's executive vice president for business affairs, said in a written statement.

The new building is on the site of a former mobile home park at Paramount Drive and the Interstate 526 access road. It includes lobby space, administrative offices and classroom areas.

North Charleston fast-tracked the rezoning of the tract last year.

The college's North Campus and Lowcountry Graduate Center have to move out of their existing offices on International Boulevard because property owner Boeing Co. has plans for that site.
