N. Charleston company to supply Army with armored SUVs

A North Charleston company is supplying the Army with armored vehicles.

Streit USA Armoring LLC said it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Tank and Automotive Command for 22 sport utility vehicles with an option for 18 more of the armored SUVs.

The value of the contract was not immediately available.

Streit USA Armoring is makes armored vehicles for military, law enforcement and commercial customers. It operates from a newly built 75,000-square-foot factory on Palmetto Commerce Parkway, between Ladson and Ashley Phosphate roads.

The company retrofits factory-made cars and trucks, which resemble the original street versions when finished.
