One of Mount Pleasant's cornerstone seafood spots is on its way out.

Locklear's, a locally owned restaurant that's been on Coleman Boulevard for 25 years, is closing at the end of the month. Its last day in business is May 26.

Stephanie Howard, who co-owns the restaurant with her parents, said they couldn't afford the rent anymore at 320 W. Coleman Blvd., which is near the high-traffic Houston Northcutt Boulevard intersection.

She added that they're open to relocating Locklear's if they can find the right space.

Another restaurant has taken over the lease on the existing Locklear's space, but Howard wasn't able to offer further details.

The Locklear's on Folly Beach at 101 E. Arctic Ave. is separately owned and will remain open.

Lori+Lulu, a women's boutique based in Fernandina Beach, Fla., recently opened at 231 King St., which was formerly United Colors of Benetton.

Owner Lori Lecker, who was a licensee of United Colors of Benetton in Charleston and Raleigh, has converted those stores into the independent boutique concept. Lecker has called Lori+Lulu a "crossover for young and older women."

TCBY has expanded its footprint in Mount Pleasant. The national frozen yogurt chain replaced a Yobe Frozen Yogurt location in the Bi-Lo-anchored shopping center at 1440 Ben Sawyer Blvd.

Menkoi Ramen House will soon replace the former Manny's Neighborhood Grille, which left its space at 41 George St. near the College of Charleston campus two weeks ago.

The Columbia-based Japanese restaurant primarily serves ramen noodle dishes, a staple among college students.

In North Charleston, meanwhile, the former Gringo's Fresh Southwest restaurant at 3032 W. Montague Ave. near Tanger Outlet Center will be replaced by Taste of Tokyo, a sushi and express hibachi restaurant.

Northwoods Mall recently welcomed a new Japanese restaurant, too. Fuji Steakhouse has opened in the food court in a large parcel at the southeast entrance of the North Charleston shopping center.

The restaurant features a sushi bar and hibachi grill.
