Movement Mortgage LLC, one of the fastest-growing mortgage lenders in the country, will establish its national headquarters in Lancaster County, creating more than 650 new jobs for the area, the company announced Thursday.
Currently headquartered in Virginia Beach, Va., the company will invest $22 million to build its new headquarters.
Casey Crawford, the company’s co-founder and chief executive officer, said Movement Mortgage needed space that will let it achieve its goal of financing 10 percent of all new home loans over the next decade.
“We need ... room to grow while maintaining the high levels of employee care, customer service and community investment that define us,” Crawford said in a statement. “Lancaster County provides that room to grow, and we look forward to calling the region home.”
Founded in 2008, Movement Mortgage has seen tremendous growth in its first six years. The company started with four employees and today employs more than 1,600 people as one of the nation’s top 25 private mortgage banks. Movement Mortgage has licensed operations in 40 states and was named the nation’s fastest-growing, privately held mortgage bank by Inc. magazine in 2012 and 2013.
“South Carolina’s booming manufacturing industry is not the state’s only economic strength — the Palmetto State is also becoming a top-choice for corporate headquarters,” state Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said in a statement.
The company’s Lancaster County headquarters will be built in the Bailes Ridge Business Park on S.C. 160. With the acquisition of 24 acres and construction of a new 104,000 square-foot headquarters building, Movement Mortgage will consolidate several offices.
Construction of the headquarters is expected to be completed in March 2016. Hiring for most of the new positions is anticipated to take place immediately.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project.
