The public is invited to Haut Gap Middle School at 1861 Bohicket Road on Johns Island at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a brief presentation on the Maybank Highway Improvement Project. It will be followed by an open house with representatives from Charleston County RoadWise on hand to answer questions.
Displays will be set out with information on the two project proposals.
The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow and safety on Maybank and to provide adequate bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
The project is based on the recommendation to have a grid network of roadways along Maybank to provide alternate routes, as well as to widen the highway from the Stono River bridge to River Road and improve the Maybank and River Road intersection.
Two alternatives are being proposed.
The county plans to hold a separate official public hearing in the future. The public will be notified when the hearing date is confirmed.
