Two downtown Charleston boutique hotels have been named among the top-ranked hotels in the world on Expedia Insiders' Select List for 2011.

Planters Inn and French Quarter Inn were selected among the top 500 hotels from the more than 130,000 properties worldwide offered by Expedia, the world's largest online travel company. Planters Inn, at 112 N. Market St., was built in 1844 and is situated on Charleston's open-air City Market. The Holliday Companies-owned hotel houses Peninsula Grill restaurant.

The 50-room French Quarter Inn at 166 Church St. also abuts the City Market. Managed by Charlestowne Hotels, it also is home to Tristan restaurant near the lobby atrium.

The Expedia list recognizes hotels worldwide that deliver excellent service, a great overall experience and notable value. The list is compiled based on more than 500,000 annual guest reviews combined with a value rating and the expertise of more than 500 Expedia employees.
