Ladles Homemade Soups will add two more restaurants in the Charleston area by late summer. One will go in downtown Charleston and another near Goose Creek, according to Ladles' website.
The downtown shop will be at 141 Calhoun St. while the other will be at 1794 State Road in the Publix-anchored shopping center at Cane Bay.
Ladies has other restaurants on James Island and in Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Summerville, West Ashley, and between Kiawah and Seabrook islands in Freshfields Village.
Mixson, a new community of sustainable living in the Park Circle district of North Charleston, will add a new restaurant by this summer.
Basico, a modern take on a traditional taqueria, will be between Mixson Market and Mixson Bath & Racquet Club, which also opens this summer. The 4,300-square-foot restaurant is owned and operated by Bryan Lewis.
Basico will be open seven days a week with abbreviated Sunday hours. It will offer catering.
Yo Chillin' self-serve frozen yogurt shop has opened at Northwoods Mall. It will host a grand opening from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Stop by for a chance to win free yogurt, smoothies or toppings for a year and other giveaways. Festivities include Instagram photo contests, balloon artists and more.
Soundwave Music & Movies at 2139-B N. Main St. in Summerville will give away thousands of free comic books Saturday during National Free Comic Book Day. The shop also will offer a costume contest, cookout and sale. Shop owner is Greg Woodard.
The Mexican-themed restaurant 3 Matadors Tequilaria will open at 2447 Ashley River Road on Friday. The owners are Travis Glen and Doug Allison, who also owns Southside 17 Bar and Grill. The third owner is Jason Marques. The specialty will be tacos, but there will be plenty of other items and Mexican-inspired cocktails.
Northwoods Mall welcomed two new retailers Wednesday. Manhattan urban apparel for men and women is open near Sears, and Refresh Spa set up shop near Dillard's. Manhattan also is at Citadel Mall.
A restaurant called Salt will open to the public at 4 p.m. Friday in the former site of Station 22 at 2205 Middle St. on Sullivan's Island. With fare such as seafood, American and upscale Lowcountry, the restaurant is the product of Richard Stoney and Marshall Stith. The opening follows two nights of benefit dinners.
The last is today starting at 5 p.m. with seatings every 30 minutes. The bar opens to the public at 8 p.m. today.
