Five years after opening in Citadel Mall, King Street Grille has shut its doors.
“Due to uncontrollable circumstances, we have determined that it is in the best interest of the King Street Grille as a company to close the Citadel Mall location,” Tod Dundas, director of operations, said in a statement.
The closing does not affect King Street Grille’s other four restaurants in the Charleston area. They are in downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Kiawah Island and North Charleston.
Employees were transferred to other nearby “very healthy locations,” Dundas said.
Gift certificates will be honored at the other restaurants in the local chain. King Street Grille has two other locations in Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet.
The closing adds more vacant space to the struggling West Ashley shopping center, which recently announced the expansion of Planet Fitness into four long-empty retail spots across from Shoe Dept. Encore.
A mall spokeswoman did not immediately return a call for comment.
