Low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways will celebrate surpassing 1 million boarding passengers Friday at Charleston International Airport.

The New York-based airline launched service in Charleston in 2013. It now flies nonstop from the Lowcountry to Boston, Fort Lauderdale, New York and Washington, D.C.

Charleston County Aviation Authority and the airline will mark the occasion with a gate-side celebration, beginning at 8 a.m. Flight 1274 will leave Charleston for New York City at 10:03 a.m. and be carrying passengers that will push the airline over the milestone.

The celebration is past the security checkpoint so it is not open to the public.
