J. Crew is bringing its upscale fashion to Mount Pleasant.
The national retailer will offer an outlet version under a new concept called J. Crew Mercantile in a new 6,000-square-foot shop in Bowman Place Shopping Center.
The offshoot of the popular J. Crew label will sit on a corner of the Dick’s Sporting Goods-anchored shopping center next to Bowman Road, according to Trey Lucy with commercial real estate firm Belk|Lucy. It will feature a collection of styles once only found at J. Crew Factory stores, according to a company statement.
J. Crew launched the new Mercantile concept in July in neighborhood malls away from traditional outlet centers. It now has between five and 10 new shops across the country, carrying men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. An April opening is targeted.
The shopping center also features Nordstrom Rack, Designer Shoe Warehouse and Kitchen & Company. A new restaurant called Urban Cookhouse is slated to go on a corner behind the J. Crew site.
Three new restaurants are rising near Tanger Outlets in North Charleston.
Community Pizza House, a product of Steel City Pizza Co., is building a new restaurant at 4822 Tanger Outlet Blvd. off Arco Lane next to Crowne Plaza Hotel. Down the street, Zaxby’s is constructing a new restaurant as well. It’s tentatively set to open Dec. 14. Beside it, Mellow Mushroom is building a 6,000-square-foot restaurant with plans to open in March, according co-owner Johnny Hudgins. It’s at 4855 Tanger Outlet Blvd.
Urban Nirvana Salon & Day Spa opened a new 4,000-square-foot shop at 5401 Netherby Lane, Suite 1001, in North Charleston earlier this week, giving it eight locations in the Charleston area. ...

Protronics, a longtime electronics repair shop at 1111A Bowman Road in Mount Pleasant, is closing after 37 years.
A sign on the door says it is no longer accepting equipment for repair and will be closing in coming weeks. The telephone number on the company’s website is no longer in service.
Also closing is Satsang Yoga at 221 St. Philip St. in Charleston. Its other two locations in Mount Pleasant will remain open. The final day of classes for the Charleston site is Dec. 15.
