Technology giant IBM Corp. said today it will hold its next annual of meeting of stockholders in the Lowcountry.

The Armonk, N.Y.-based company said its 2012 gathering is scheduled for April 24 at the Charleston Area Convention Center.

The agenda for the meeting has not been filed yet with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

At a typical shareholders meeting, companies and investors vote to elect or re-elect board members and approve various corporate proposals, such as the hiring of an outside accounting firm.

Also, the chief executive or chairman usually fields some questions from shareholders. IBM's CEO is Ginni Rometty, who succeeded Sam Palmisano in the fall. Palmisano is now chairman.

IBM previously held it roving annual meeting at the local convention center in 2005.
