Hotel properties in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, go for approval

A 92-room Hyatt hotel is proposed for a site to the left of the Belk department store at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre

Mount Pleasant Towne Centre already has myriad places for people to browse and buy, but now really devoted shoppers or out-of-town guests might be able to sleep there, too.

Developers are proposing to build a six-story, 92-room Hyatt Place between the Belk department store and the Regal Cinemas Palmetto Grande 16 movie theater.

The hotel also would include more than 5,000 square feet of retail space, according to plans submitted to the town.

The developer of the project is Encore Lodging, which is based in West Ashley. It also built the Hilton Garden Inn that opened last spring on Wingo Way, near the base of the Ravenel Bridge

Mount Pleasant’s Commercial Design Review Board will look at the Towne Centre hotel plans at its meeting Wednesday.

A city of Charleston board has approved a hotel proposal for the site of a former West Ashley bowling alley.

A local company affiliated with the owner of the Town & County Inn and Suites on Savannah Highway is looking build a 150-room extended-stay lodging on the other side of U.S. Highway 17.

Palas Hospitality and land owner Palas Holdings LLC sought preliminary approval last week from the city Design and Review Board for a Home2 Suites by Hilton.

The board OK’d the plans from Charlotte-based R IV Architecture.

The hotel would be built at 1963 Savannah Highway, near U.S. Interstate 526. The nearly 4-acre property is the site of the former AMF Triangle Lanes bowling alley.

Among its other business ventures, Palas Hospitality owns the Market Pavilion Hotel and its Grill 225 restaurant on East Bay Street in downtown Charleston and the Hampton Inn on Northside Drive in North Charleston.
