Hotel planned at former Charleston bowling site seeks design OK

A Charleston company affiliated with the owner of the Town & County Inn and Suites in West Ashley is looking build a 150-room extended hotel on the other side of U.S. Highway 17.

Palas Hospitality and land owner Palas Holdings LLC are seeking preliminary approval from the city Design and Review Board for a Home2 Suites by Hilton at 1963 Savannah Highway.

The board is scheduled to vote on the plans from Charlotte-based R IV Architecture on Monday at a 5 p.m. meeting.

The hotel would be built on the nearly 4-acre site of the former AMF Triangle Lanes bowling alley near Savannah Highway and U.S. Interstate 526.

The Design Review Board has already given the Home2 Suites project conceptual approval, according to the city. Locally, Palas Hospitality also owns the Market Pavilion Hotel and its Grill 225 restaurant on East Bay Street in downtown Charleston and the Hampton Inn on Northside Drive in North Charleston.
