A Savannah-based maritime company that loads and unloads agricultural commodities and other bulk products has expanded its business to the Port of Charleston.

The Jimco Group said growing demand for exports, particularly from countries in Asia, fueled the need for its new transloading operation near the State Ports Authority's North Charleston Terminal.

It will receive product by rail cars or trucks and place it in shipping containers.

"Our new Charleston facility gives farmers, agricultural interests and other bulk cargo shippers a new, cost-effective way to get their product to overseas buyers through a productive, deep-water port," said Jimmie Collins, the company's president and founder.
