Group offers free job help for female veterans

The Center for Women is offering a new series of its “Ready for Work” program this week.

The free five-week job program that starts Tuesday is geared specifically for female veterans who are unemployed or underemployed and need guidance to find work or to start on a career path.

The program includes sessions on resume preparation, online applications, mock job interviews, attire and the importance of so-called soft skills.

It will be held each Tuesday through Aug. 25 from 9-11 a.m. at 129 Cannon St., Charleston.

The center launched “Ready for Work” as a pilot program in July 2014. Its partners are the Charleston Housing Authority and One80 Place.

“These clients have often been out of work for several years and are not prepared to successfully apply for jobs, interview for jobs or search for realistic employment,” the center said in a statement.
