Gas/store chain Sunoco investing $30M in the area

Fill 'er up: Sunoco plans to open at least six new conven-ience stores and service stations in the Charleston area over the next few years.

Sunoco will open its 22nd APlus convenience store in the Charleston area Tuesday at Ladson and Miles-Jamison roads in North Charleston.

In a statement, the Philadelphia-based petroleum and C-store chain said the new location is the first of at least six new stores it will open in this area in the next few years.

"Sunoco's total new investment in Charleston is $30 million, with the addition of at least 120 jobs," said Sunoco spokesman Jeff Shields.

The APlus stores offer coffee and smoothie bars and craft beer coolers which will offer some of South Carolina's breweries such as Thomas Creek, Holy City and Palmetto.

Sunoco last week submitted permitting requests with the state to build two more conven-ience stores: one at 5710 Rivers Ave. near Remount Road in North Charleston, and another near the Walmart Supercenter at Dorchester and Parlor roads in Summerville.

East Coast Wings & Grill will debut its first South Carolina eatery in Mount Pleasant next week. The wing joint on Tuesday will hold a grand opening at 1909 U.S. Highway 17, next to Mount Pleasant Towne Centre.

The event will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature specials on drinks, appetizers and desserts. The franchise will donate a portion of the day's proceeds to Law Enforcement Torch Run, a nonprofit organization that the Mount Pleasant Police Department works with to support Special Olympics.

The casual dining chain based in Winston-Salem, N.C., has about 27 other restaurants in North Carolina, Florida and Texas. It has a wide selection of hot flavors and the spiciest "Insanity Wing," which requires a signed waiver from anyone who dares to order it.

Cainhoy Cookin' Depot, a casual Southern restaurant, will open in the Wando area next month. The eatery at 1190 Clements Ferry Road will serve brunch, lunch and dinner daily. The menu features a variety of locally sourced ingredients, according to a statement.

The restaurant is a joint project of Nathaniel Chamblin and John Scott Stauss, who are veterans of Charleston's food and beverage industry. Chamblin established Bull & Finch in 1999, a bar and grill that had locations in Mount Pleasant Towne Centre and downtown Charleston before it went out of business several years ago.

The Alley, a restaurant and bar featuring a bowling alley and arcade games in downtown Charleston, has changed its hours of operation. The entertainment hub at 131 Columbus St. between King and Meeting streets is now open 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Mondays through Wednesdays and 11 a.m.-2 a.m. the rest of the week.
