WASHINGTON -- The Force Protection plant on U.S. Highway 78 in Ladson has landed its first contract under its new owner. General Dynamics' Land Systems unit said Tuesday workers at the recently acquired factory will install additional equipment on 292 armored vehicles bound for Afghanistan.

The General Dynamics-made Strykers will be outfitted with communication devices and other components. The $10 million, 11-month job begins in March and will create 45 jobs.
