The Force Protection Inc. plant in Ladson has secured its first batch of work under its new owner.
General Dynamics Land Systems said today that the recently acquired factory will install additional combat-related equipment on 292 armored military vehicles to be deployed to Afghanistan.
The double-V hull Strykers will be outfitted with extra communication devices and other components.
The $10 million job begins in March and will create 45 jobs, General Dynamics Land Systems said. The work is expected to be completed by February 2013.
The U.S. Army recently agreed to buy another 177 Stryker troop carriers from the General Dynamics Corp. subsidiary, brings the total number built or on order to 742.
Sterling Heights, Mich.-based General Dynamics Land Systems bought Summerville-based Force Protection last month for $360 million.
