An Orangeburg County maker of automotive braking components is expanding.

Federal-Mogul Friction Products today said it expects to invest at least $7 million and create 40 new jobs at the plant.

The company has been operating in Orangeburg since 1996. It has a 210,000-square-foot facility with 210 employees.

The company is a division of Southfield, Mich.-based Federal-Mogul Corp., a global company that makes a large line of parts for original equipment manufacturers in the automotive, aerospace, marine, rail and off-road vehicle markets.

Fedreal-Mogul in 2010 closed a 36-year-old plant in Summerton that put 550 people out of work.

ReadySC, a division of the S.C. Technical College System, in cooperation with Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College, is assisting with the recruitment and training for the new technician positions.
