Fast-food workers to rally at McDonald’s on Spring Street

Fast-food workers said they would rally outside a local McDonald’s on Wednesday.

A rally of fast-food workers protesting racism and harassment was scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday outside McDonald’s restaurant at 230 Spring St. in Charleston.

The rally is in support of McDonald’s workers in South Boston, Va., who filed a federal lawsuit against the fast-food giant a week ago, alleging racial and sexual discrimination and harassment in three restaurants in Virginia.

In a Reuters report after the suit was filed, the fast-food corporation said, “McDonald’s has a long-standing history of embracing the diversity ... and discrimination is completely inconsistent with our values.”
