Three months after a seemingly permanent store closure, Edwin Watts in West Ashley is being resurrected.
The golf equipment shop at 946 Orleans Road closed in mid-February after the Florida-based chain filed for bankruptcy and sold its assets to Worldwide Golf Shops and liquidator Hilco Merchant Resources LLC for $40.8 million.
The Charleston location and about half of Edwin Watts' stores were forced to close and liquidate their inventories, said Jack Hinkle, the regional manager who has overseen daily operations at the local store since it opened nearly 30 years ago.
About a week after the liquidation sales wrapped up, Hinkle was informed the Charleston store was one of eight Edwin Watts shops that Worldwide Golf Shops would reopen.
The store is now being restocked with more inventory than before, and it should be ready to open again by the end of the month, Hinkle said.
Ardoa Wine Bar, a French bar serving wine, cheese and charcuterie, will open next month in a 1,200-square-foot space in the The Shoppes at Seaside Farms at 1600 Riviera Drive in Mount Pleasant. Owner Clement Batut said he planned to open the restaurant in downtown Charleston on Broad Street, but after facing some zoning complications, he decided to go east of the Cooper. He expects to be open June 1. ... Stacy's Closet, a resale store for women's apparel, opened last week at 120 E. 5th North St. in Summerville.
Normandy Farm, a local bakery with locations at 32 Windermere Blvd. in West Ashley and 19 Broad St. in downtown Charleston, has leased a 1,494-square-foot retail space at 84 Society St. It's unclear whether the bakery is expanding or if one of its stores is relocating. Requests for comment were not returned.
Harris Teeter has launched a monthlong campaign to support the USO and Wounded Warrior Project, organizations that provide support for military personnel and their families. Customers at all Harris Teeter locations will have the option to donate $1, $3 or $5 to the support fund at checkout. The grocery chain's inaugural Support Our Troops campaign last year raised more than $587,000, the company says.
